Abridge is a pretty little village located on the River Roding in Essex in the district of Epping forest. It is surrounded by green belt land and the nearest towns are Loughton to the west, Stapleford Abbotts to the east and Chigwell to the south.
Commuting from Abridge is either via the M11/M25 interchange at Epping or nearby Theydon Bois Underground on the central line.
Driving into Abridge from Abridge Road over the River Roding it’s evident that the village has retained much of its charm and “period” feel – the buildings here are unmistakably Georgian, with exposed beams and distinctive windows. Properties along Ongar Road are in keeping with the style including the impressive Blue Boar public house which dominates the road. Away from the river are more modern but still tasteful developments of bungalows and semi-detached houses.
The Blue Boar is the focal point for gathering with friends and family with a separate bar and restaurant area, and a hotel. Regular entertainment is offered as well as theme nights and seasonal specials. The New Roding is an impressive Italian eatery located in a beautiful Georgian building. The décor is traditional and the menu is Sardinian Italian – as is the owner.
About a mile outside Abridge in Stapleford Tawney is Abridge Golf Course. This 18-hole par 72 course is set in 160 acres of parkland holds major amateur tournaments including the South East Regional Open Qualifier alongside other evening events. They also have practice bunkers, a driving range, putting greens and dining facilities.
